Fukushima Ken("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) is divided
into three regions, Aizu, Nakadori("Nakadori" in Japanese means
Middle areas), and Hamadori("Hamadori" in Japanese means Costal
areas), with differences in topography, climate, transportation, and history
due to the mountain ranges that run north to south. Aizu is located in
the west of the prefecture, inland on the Sea of Japan side, sandwiched
between the Echigo Mountains and the Ou Mountains. Nakadori is located
in the center of the prefecture, inland on the Pacific side, sandwiched
between the Ou Mountains and the Abukuma Highlands. Hamadori is located
in the east of the prefecture, on the Pacific coast, sandwiched between
the Abukuma Highlands and the Pacific Ocean. |
