An overwhelming number of large fireworks are launched into the sky, lighting up the summer night sky. A highlight is the fireworks paired with a letter written in bonfire on the mountain in the background. Also, in the nerby Omagari, Akita-ken, a competition is held to determine the best fireworks maker in Japan, where fireworks painstakingly crafted by some of Japan's best fireworks makers are launched into the sky. (Many fireworks festivals are held all over Japan during summer, as well.)
